OH LITTLE ONE
As you lie there in that hospital bed. With all those tubes in and around your head. I sit here and I wonder why. This has to happened to our little guy.
You lie there in that bed and wait. To see what all the reports will state. What will the doctors have to say? To make it so you can really play.
It is so hard to see you fight. As you struggle to get rid of what holds you tight. I know it’s something that has to be done. So you can get well to play and run.
I help the nurses as they hold you still. And it is all done against your will. You want to remove the tubes and bands. And all that holds your head and hands.
“Oh Little One” you are really so strong. You have been fighting to breathe for so long. My heart is breaking as I see you there. I hope you can feel how much I care.
The doctor has come to let us know. The result of the biopsies what did they show? Inconclusive is what they said they were. So now what? Where is it you go?
Doctor Wright said he believes you should be. Flown from Des Moines to Iowa City. He said that was the best for you. To get the care that he couldn’t do.
So away you went so high in the sky. After mom and dad said bye “little guy.” We will see you soon as soon as can be. It won’t be long and you’ll be back with me.
They put you to sleep for that long ride. The pain in our hearts we all had to hide. We longed to hold you and kiss you too. But that was something we didn’t get to do.
To a room on the seventh floor you went. Where at your bedside we again met. We held your hands and talked to you. To let you know we love you “Boo”.
Next Doctor Bauman you had to meet. She ran more tests to see what was your feat. You lay there so quiet, the struggle was gone. You had been there for so very long.
We sat by your bed, you held onto our hand. A girl came to sing, she was a small band. You are so small but yet so strong. As your daddy sings you a special song.
The days went by and your heart rate got slow. They all began to worry, why is that so? The drugs they had given to you were many. Did they cause this problem did they cause any?
Then one day the tests were all finished. The gleam in your eyes had also diminished. All the drugs had to go, they took them away. You fought this addiction, you had a tough day.
It broke our hearts as you struggled again. This time we knew, we knew you would win. The struggles would go, they would all go away. And you would then have a much better day.
Dad had to leave off to work he must be. The days passed, but they went very slowly. Grandma came to help mommy with you. For there were still some “bad” days to go through.
You had to learn to suck and drink once again. And to sleep without help a struggle to win. You did great little one, you are a real trooper. You won; once again, you were really super.
The doctor came in said you could go home. In the hospital you were never alone. We packed up the car and away we did flee. To take you home to be with dad and mommy. 4/19/04 By Grandma Amy |
