October has been quite a month for Mason. He went from sitting, to crawling on his belly. It didn't take him long to figure out that he could travel a lot faster that way. With more practice the better and faster he became. After he mastered that little trick, he wanted something more challenging. For his next stunt he chose to pull himself up in his crib. So from then on the rails are up and locked whenever he gets put in his crib. As much as we would love to see him dive off of a platform into a pool someday, now isn't the time to practice. Mason decided that pulling himself up and just standing there was a little too boring, so he started to walk around his crib grasping the rails and hanging on for dear life. All we need now to complete the month is another tooth. Sorry to report that he still has just 7 teeth in there. Well, at least we think it is just seven. Neither one of us is brave enough to stick our finger in there to find out. Any volunteers? He certainly is working on getting another one through. It just hasn't shown up yet. Oh, yes, and we can't forget to mention that Mason has figured out how to put his finger in his trach and plug it so he can talk to us. Around about the middle of the month we all had a bout with the flu. Mason started it by getting sick first. His lasted about 2 days, and ours was just one day. Mason was one of the fortunate ones that were able to get a flu shot this year. We are hoping that is the one and only time we are all sick this winter. Mason had his first Halloween and was dressed as a lion this year. We didn't spend too much time going door to door this year. We made a stop at the mall where all of the stores were passing out candy to the little monsters in town. Then we stopped at another store where Mason played his first game of Cake Walk, and won a cupcake. He thought the frosting was quite good. Mom and Dad shared the rest. Our next stop was Grandma and Grandpa's house where Mason helped pass out candy to all the trick or treaters that stopped while we were there. Mason was a little too young to really know what was going on. It will be interesting to see how he does next year. Yes he did get to eat some of his candy that he received. With all of the teeth that Mason has, it only seems fitting to start him on more solid foods. And so we did. He has started to eat mashed potatoes at dinner time, and gets cookies and cheese for snacks. He isn't too crazy about the mashed potatoes, and the cookies took some getting used to as well. The more he eats them the more he gets used to the idea of big people food, and he is getting better at chewing when things get put in his mouth. Mason finished out the month by learning how to sit up on his own. Once he figured out how to use his hands to push himself up, he was an old pro at it. Here are a few pictures that we took this month.
