Name: Kent Mudgett CommentsBeing up here in Minnesota there are few sorces of gold. I am a novice and just starting to learn about metal detectors. I have four. A cheepee 39 dollar (kids)allmetal four inch max depth. A compass from the 60's. A garret good to four inches. And a beach magnet allmetal. Any suggestions for a ten inch depth with better discrimination for an upgrade?

Name: Gary Vanvekoven (Explosives Safety Spec.) CommentsHello, I just bought my first metal detector a few days ago and don't know much about it (probably not any new news for you to hear). Actually, I bought it to use out where I work at the Iowa Ammo Plant to find duds in an old hunting area before EOD came to do a blow. Unfortunatly, the area was loaded with schrapnel....and I thought I was going to burn up the diodes in the detector. It was fun anyway. Located 60 pieces of unexploded ordnance that had been hidden in the area since around the WWII era. Now that the duds are gone - I am trying to learn how to use the detector for it's intended purpose. Took it out to Geode park and was able to find 4 pennies. Big deal right. Lots of pop-tops, old pieces of barbed wire, some tin foil, and some things I could not identify. Didn't find out till just today I was not supposed to be looking in a state park. O-well. The park ranger came by and didn't say anything. Just asked if I had found anything. It wasn't so much what I found as it was actually finding something. I will get better at it. I do know I need a pin-pointer and maybe a gold pan. My machine only came with a 8 inch head. I am told a smaller one will help narrow in on stuff. Wish me luck. Hopefully, the next big thing I find wont end up being an old 90mm projectile or artillery fuze.
